About the LPN Program

This program prepares students for:

  • perform selected nursing duties in the care of the sick, promotion of health, and the prevention of illness under the supervision of a licensed physician and of a registered nurse.

  • sponsored by the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County.

  • approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to take the licensing examinations to become L.P.N.'s.

  • was established in 1967 under the Manpower Development Training Act and was approved by the Veterans Administration in 1968.

  • Information on financial resources is available in the Financial Aid office ... 346-8728. Students may apply for PHEAA loans, PELL grants, and scholarships.

  • Admission Requirements

    The course is open to any interested person who:

    • is a resident of Pennsylvania

    • is a high school graduate with a diploma from an accredited school or has a Pennsylvania G.E.D.

    • is in good physical and mental health as evidenced by a physical and dental exams.

    • manifests ability to learn as indicated by a preadmission test, references and transcripts

    Applications

        Classes are admitted in March and December of even years and September of odd years. Applications forms will be sent on request. An aptitude test will be scheduled after the completed application form is returned with the testing fee. Meetings are scheduled after test results, transcripts and references are on file. It is suggested that interested applicants apply 9 to 12 months in advance of the calls they wish to enter.

        Practical nursing is one of the most rewarding careers open to people Employment opportunities exist in health care institutions and agencies, in clinics, in doctors offices, industry, and in home health. 100% of graduates surveyed a year after graduation were employed.


    Program of Study

        The Practical Nursing Program is a 52-week course of study extended over 15 months, on a 5 days a week basis (Monday-Friday). Appx. 40% of the time is spent the classroom and 60% in the clinical experience. Supervised concurrent or sequential clinical experience is given at Community Medical Center, Moses Taylor Hospital and Mountain View Care Center. Students are under the supervision and guidance of Career Technology Center Practical Nursing Program.
